Pumpkins

The growth in pumpkin sales has continued steadily over the last few years and consumer demand is at an all time high. The opportunity for sales is very short, but pumpkins have become a 'must have' item for many families. We are able to offer a full range of pumpkins from table top size for decorations, up to giant varieties for exhibitions and as living advertisements for sales of standard varieties etc.


Sow	May in modules or direct drilled at 27,500 seeds, thin to 10,000 per hectare
Transplant	Approx. 4 weeks from sowing, spacing 90cm between plants for most varieties
Suggested Density	10,000 per hectare
Harvest Period	When the foliage has died back and the fruits have cured to a good orange colour. Avoid frost damage and foliar diseases
Store	In a dry, frost free, airy environment. Inspect regularly for storage problems

Atlantic Giant

Atlantic Giant produces world record size pumpkins- the heaviest on record weighed 821.2 kg and was grown in Wisconsin in 2010. Fruits usually achieve 30-200kg depending on conditions. These huge pumpkins are a great talking point and look great as part of a display.

Summer Ball F1

Summer Ball can been sown up to the end of July and has a compact bush habit producing small yellow fruits which can be harvested and used as round yellow courgettes or fruits can be allowed to mature and form midi-size pumpkins, which can be stored for a short period. Use as a late sown field crop, for plant sales or as a patio plant. If required for pumpkin use we recommend thinning to 3 or 4 fruits per plant.
