The Brassica genus has probably given us a larger range of important crops than any other. Almost every part of a brassica has been developed into an edible vegetable, the root (turnip, swede), the leaf (cabbage) the flower (cauliflower, broccoli) and the seeds (mustards, oil seed rape).
Similar to Brussels Sprouts, a tall stem with rosettes forming all the way up to a frilly-leaved top. Extremely winter hardy and with a similar cropping calendar to sprouts the harvest window stretches from October to early March from mid-March sowings.
Borecoles (or Kales) are non-heading brassicas; they tend to be very hardy and are thus particularly suited to overwintering.
Unusual and colourful speciality brassicas. Becoming more popular with growers such as farm shops. Similar in production to summer and autumn cauliflowers
The plant breeders at Tozer have been working on purple sprouting broccoli for some time and have made many improvements. Our first F1 hybrids are now available to purchase and offer a more defined harvest window, a more uniform crop and shorter harvest period.
We are currently working to improve the quality and extend the season on this crop making it more attractive to the needs of the commercial growers.
Tozer breeding concentrates on even sized dark green buttons, ease of harvesting for hand picking and mechanical harvest operations.
Tozer cabbage varieties possess the qualities required to overcome many of the difficult challenges that occur in cabbage production.
Calabrese is a relatively new crop in the UK, rising quickly from the ranks of unusual oriental vegetable to a mainstay vegetable in the UK diet. Breeding has focused on tightly formed heads and bead quality.
Tozer are at the forefront of early and late spring cauliflower breeding and are proud to offer an extensive range which matures throughout the winter, spring and early summer seasons and provides growers with a supply of quality heads at a time when prices are often at a premium.
