Quality Control
All the seed that we produce and all the seed we store is regularly tested to ensure it is of the highest quality. The development of cleaner and purer seed batches is something to which Tozer are fully committed
Germination testing
Our germination laboratory is continually testing our seed to ensure that it has excellent germination and vigour. New seed arriving at Tozer is often tested several times before we are happy that it is of high enough quality to market. Some seed is tested at different temperatures to ensure it will perform in very different soil conditions. We also check to ensure that a batch of seed is not generating abnormal seedlings which would be incapable of growing into a healthy crop.
Purity
It is essential that our seed is as pure as possible. Our molecular biology laboratory team is dedicated to ensuring that we supply the finest quality seed, tests use modern genomic techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays to ensure hybrid purity, they also ensure our seeds are pure and not contaminated with unwanted seed and so provide reliable results in the field.
Disease
Our pathology lab routinely tests for disease levels to ensure that our seed is as clean as possible. Tozer Seeds have been at the forefront of plant disease technology for many years, for instance we were the first company to screen lettuce for mildew resistance.
